Certificate course in Telemedicine
To manage telemedicine systems, processes and systems efficiently, a multidisciplinary team is required, consisting of healthcare practitioners and ICT specialists. This course is targeted at engineering managers in a healthcare environment (or health systems engineers) as well as healthcare practitioners working with telemedicine technology.
If you are one of the following, this course will be ideal for you:
- Medical practitioners who are practitioners who are interested in using information and communication technology (ICT) to do deliver health care services, where distance is an issue.
- Information technologists and engineers, who contribute to the provision of healthcare, where distance is an issue.
This course is accredited within the National Qualifications Framework of South Africa as a post-graduate certificate (level 8). Any person with a tertiary qualification (e.g. diploma or BTech) will be issued with an official certificate of competence, upon successfully completing of this course. It will take you an average of 100 notional hours (10 NQF-credits) to complete the certificate of competence. About one third of this course is taken up by face-to-face contact time, lectures, workshops and group work. The other two thirds are self study and virtual contact. A 4-credit certificate of attendance will be issued to delegates who wish to participate in all contact sessions, without doing any assignments.
Outcomes: At completion of the course you will have accomplished the following:
- Appreciate the history and status quo of telemedicine within a South African context
- Work in interdisciplinary teams over distance, using ICT, to share and synthesize knowledge
- Apply knowledge of telemedicine applications to own work/research environment
- Apply knowledge of the development and evaluation of a telemedicine system to own work/research environment.
- Appreciate the medicolegal and ethical issues related to telemedicine
- Find and apply information on contemporary telemedicine topics related to own field of experience an interest.
- Share own experience and interest in telemedicine with a wider audience within the context of additional information forms.
